Welcome back everyone! I hope you all enjoyed your break. I spent the weekend helping on a farm in Cumbria. I learned so much feeding the animals and collecting wood. I never realised how muddy and hard work it could be.

Reading
This week you must continue reading every day and completing your yellow diary at least 3 times. You may want to read newspapers some days as our next Literacy topic is based on newspaper reports.

Maths
You should all have your next times table and division facts to practise ready for your test next week. If you are repeating a test make sure that you practise lots and make it important.

Spelling
Complete the worksheet 'Exploring word endings when words are changed from singular to plural'. Make sure that you challenge yourself with more complicated words if you are good at spelling.

Have fun and as always do the best that you can so that you feel proud of yourself!

Half Term Activities

Just want to wish you all a very happy half term break.
Although there is no official homework from me I woukld like you all to spend considerable time on Mathletics. Other year groups are putting us to shame and getting scores each week in the thousands. We can do it too and it will really improve everyone's skills in maths.
I will send you updates every few days to let you know who Year 4 top scorers are so keep an eye on this blog.
Also if you havn't got your certificate yet for your 4 or 6 times table then keep practising!

This is the first time I have posted anything on our blog this year and I look forward to hearing from you. Miss Blaymire told me that you were fantastic bloggers in Year 3 so I am sure we will have plenty to talk about.

This is a reminder about your Explorers Homework which you need to do for Tuesday 14th October. We have talked about it in class and I know you have some really good ideas already. Remember that you need to choose an explorer and find out as much information as you can about them. You can present your work as a poster, a booklet a storyboard or in an even better way if you can think of one. Also, don't forget that you will be able to dress up as your explorer for our fantastic history day. There will be some brilliant activities to take part in.
Once you have decided who your explorer will be please post me a message on the blog. If you have any questions about the homework you can ask those as well.
When you know how you would like to record your information let me know and we can find the type of paper and anything else you might need.

As you know, we have been finding out about how to write a recount in the form of a diary and your homework is to continue your diary writing during the half term holiday. You did some fantastic diary writing about Roman Day and I have been really pleased with the diary entries which you did on Monday. Your diaries will be given back to you on Friday and will include instructions. Here they are as well:

TASK: Write at least 3 fantastic diary entries at different times over the holiday. It would be best not to leave this until just before you return to school!

Hello everyone

Hope you enjoyed Roman Day.

I am struggling to write as the letters have worn off this very old keyboard. The people here are wonderful and they keep saying prayers for you all at Greenfields to thank you for all your support. I hope these images come through as this computer is very challenging.

HABITATS HOMEWORK

For part of our Science work on HABITATS, you have been asked to choose an animal which interests you and which you would like to find out more about. You can either work by yourself, with a partner or with 2 other people.

Your challenge is to create a representation of the animal in its habitat. You can decide which materials to use and start collecting!

You could , for example, make a model, do a painting, a pastel drawing or a collage. I'm sure you will have some brilliant ideas of your own. The important thing is that you start collecting NOW! You might want to try to find some natural materials to include, for example, leaves, twigs, stones and grasses.

Fingers crossed I think I can blog again! Have some fun and find out about the Vikings by visiting this website. If you click on the blue words on the web pages, you will be able to use the GLOSSARY to find their meanings. Post me a comment and tell me at least one new piece of information you found from the site.
Next Tuesday, when we are in the ICT suite, we will be working on the following website http://www.bbc.co.uk/history/ancient/ vikings/. It is brilliant! You can go on your own Viking Quest and collect treasure to take back to your chief. We are going to have a competition to see who can collect most points. Try to have a go before next week.

Please spend some time this week looking at adverts on the television, in magazines and in newspapers. Make a note of any catchy slogans that grab your attention. Sometimes alliteration is used and many of the words begin with the same letter. Often they rhyme or they have a catchy rhythm. As soon as we return after christmas you will be setting yourself 2 or 3 individual targets which you must achieve before march 2007. We would like you to think about some very important targets that will be good for you and that will help you to develop new skills.
Please discuss this also with your parents.
If you can not honestly give yourself 'FIVE' for your handwriting then this will need to be one of your targets. It is so important in Y4 to produce handwriting that is neat and correctly sized and letters must be correctly formed and joined.
Be ready to discuss your targets the first day back after christmas.

I know how much you all like playtime so I've got a fun game for you to play and at the same time you will be doing some maths shape and space work. I hope you can remember what a polygon is - No it's not a dead parrot!
At the Polygon Playground you can make patterns and pictures with six different polygons . You should know their names.
